Living
in the dorm, every semester each student has to finish at least ten service
hours. At the beginning of this semester, I wasn't worried at all in that I
thought a semester was long enough for me to finish all the required hours
without any trouble. However, as the days went by I started noticing that all
my friends had started serving their hours and that I had yet to begin. Thus, I
decided to get started by signing up for a job that made sure all the students
swiped their card when entering the dorms. Since everyone who approached the
entrance to the dorms knew I was sitting outside to check if they swiped their
student IDs, they all cooperated, making my job very easy. Fortunately, I was
done with most of my hours in the short period of two weeks, and now I only got
two more hours left! J
Living in a Dorm
關於我自己
- Lily Wu
- Hi! My name is Lily. Despite the fact that I now major in Japanese, I actually don't know a lot about this language, and i still speak Chinese and English a lot better than Japanese at present. I'm a pretty outgoing girl but also a bit stubborn. I love traveling, though I haven't been to many countries, experiencing a variety of cultures and getting along with people from different places always make me excited. I also love reading, and read almost everything except for science articles. Besides, I often enjoy participating in activities that are exciting and challenging. Being a college freshman, I join the cheerleading club and the Student Association, and I'm really looking forward to my colorful new life here in NCCU! :D

Our new dehumidifier
Being
a subtropical island, Taiwan has always been a pretty humid country. However, I’ve
never lived in a place that is as humid as NCCU. When the weather is humid, the most inconvenient thing in the dorm is that it takes centuries to dry my clothes. Also,
the air condition was so bad that we could hardly stand it. The situation got
increasingly worse as winter approach. It seemed that NCCU would never stop raining.
Therefore, after i dicussed with my roommates, we decided to bring a
dehumidifier to our dorm. Luckily, my mom agreed to buy one for us. We were all
looking forward to its arrival, and it finally arrived this Monday! Though I know
we shouldn’t turn it on when there are people in the room, I still left it on
for the first night. Next day, when I got up in the morning there were already
2.5 liters of water in the container! Apparently, it was really humid in our
room!

Our First Mid-term
Our first mid-term exam after entering university is coming next
week. I’m taking six exams, including English, economics, economics, Japanese,
Japanese and Japanese! Besides, I still get two mid-term projects to do. As for
my lovely roommates, two of them are both having five tests and the other girl
majoring College of Communication Undergraduate Degree Program only get two
tests in total! Though I really envy her a lot, I still have no choice but to
face the music. I’ve been studying Japanese for two months already. However, being
a total beginner in Japanese, I still found it very difficult for me. Therefore,
I’ve spent most of the time studying it.
Next Tuesday is the 19th birthday of one of my roommates.
We planned to celebrate for her after all the exams. I really hope that I can
pass every course with flying colors, and celebrate her birthday with other
girls happily. Wish everyone good luck! J

Birthday Surprise
Last Monday was one of my roommates’ 19th birthday. Nevertheless,
it was already 10 o’clock when I noticed it and I was the only person in our
room at that time. I waited until someone else came back. We discussed for a
while, and then decided to buy her a cake to celebrate. However, we couldn’t
get contact with the other girl. Therefore, I called a friend and asked him to
buy one for us.
Unfortunately, our birthday girl went back before the cake arrived. When
the cake finally arrived, we all made up an excuse to get out of the room but it
was almost 12 o’clock at that time. We hurry to put on the candles and burst
into the room. “Happy birthday to you, happy birthday……” We sang the song aloud.
I could tell that she was really surprise from her face. I was really glad that
we were on time and also very happy to see her smile.

Complaint from Next Door
This Monday, I left the dorm early in the morning as I always did. When
I was about to close the door, I caught a glimpse of a small piece of paper stuck
on the door. It complained of us making noise when closing the door at late
night. I was a bit shocked at first, for I thought it was written by one of my
roommates. However, I soon noticed that the hand writing doesn’t belong to any
of them. Hurrying for my Japanese class, I had no choice but to leave first.
At night, I asked my roommates about the piece of paper as soon as I
got back to the dorm. They told me that the complaint came from our next door. The
only reason they’re so sure is that the people next door had already came in
person before leaving that message. I felt extremely guilty in that it was
mostly me that came back the latest, so it probably was also me that caused the
protest. Even so, none of my roommates blame it on me. On the contrary, they comforted
me that it’s not all my fault. I’m really happy to have them as my roommates.
Most important of all, I’ll try my best to make no noise at late night!

Start living in a dorm
To me, one of the greatest changes between high school and college life
is living in a dorm. In spite of the fact that I live in Taipei, I still signed
up for a dorm in that it takes me more than an hour to get to school from my
house. Fortunately, I did get a room, and I start looking forward to my new
life since then.
Speaking of dorm life, the most influential element is the roommates.
I was quite excited but also a bit nervous about getting along with my
roommates. After all, living with three other people with completely different
lifestyle isn’t an easy task. However, I soon found out that all three of my
roommates are great people that are all easy-going. We chat and share our life
with each other, and sometimes complaints as well. I feel really lucky to have
them as my roommates, and I believe we will get along very well.
